Blue Boy Trial

Nippon Cinema   ª

Tokyo, 1965: The government intensifies its war on prostitution. But the “Blue Boys” – transgender sex workers registered as men but living as women – cannot legally be prosecuted. Instead, police arrest a doctor performing gender reassignment surgeries. Inspired by a true case, director Kasho IIZUKA revisits a long-suppressed chapter of Japanese history.
