In the Global Universities Subtitling Project of the Japan Visualmedia Translation Academy (JVTA), students gather initial experience in film subtitling. We present two PIA Film Festival shorts, which were subtitled by students of the University of Ghent (EXPOSURE) and the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (LIGHT CHANGES). Highschool student Kaho spends the summer holidays with her family in a vacation home. While Kaho falls in love with a girl there, her mother learns about her husband’s infidelity. In order to overcome their conflicts, all family members must find the courage to leave old habits behind.

Yuji, who is unemployed, is regularly plagued by dark future prospects. During a walk with his dog, he meets a mysterious stranger who turns his life upside down. Suddenly, Yuji begins to understand that life is about much more than just productivity.
