About Tetsu MAEDA
前田哲
Tetsu MAEDA, born in Osaka Prefecture in 1972, began his career in film as a props technician and assistant art director at Toei Tokyo Studio. As an assistant director, he worked under Juzo ITAMI, Yoichi SAI and Junji SAKAMOTO, among others. He wrote and directed his feature-length debut, SWING MAN, in 2000. His film SCHOOL DAYS WITH A PIG (2008) had a successful international festival run and won several awards. Nippon Connection has featured his films GAKINCHO ROCK (2003 / NC ’04), SUKIYAKI (2011 / NC ’12), and 90 YEARS OLD – SO WHAT? (2024 / NC ’25). His film HANAMANMA was released in April 2025.
