Rather than following a samurai career, Shinzaburo decided to teach poor children in an Edo suburb. However, his life is put in danger when he falls in love with a ghost. Satsuo YAMAMOTO’s adaptation of the popular ghost story “Botan doro” focuses on the consequences of Shinzaburo’s actions for his community and reflects the director’s own socialist convictions.
