A Lecture By Martyna Lesniewska
Stories and legends about samurai usually only involve men. However, women played important roles within the warrior cast of feudal Japan: daughters, wives, and mothers of soldiers and shoguns had direct influence over politics. However, female warriors were rarely acknowledged, with only a few heroines recognized in Japanese history. Martyna Lesniewska, curator of the Samurai Museum in Berlin, will discuss these gaps in the historical record in this unique presentation.
