Online Lecture: Paranoia And The Information Society – How Media Both Overwhelms And Offers Solutions In Japanese Film

Nippon Culture   º

A Lecture By Prof. Alexander Zahlten

Paranoia is a common theme in world cinema, and Japan is no exception. The idea of a vague, controlling power determining our lives – and how to deal with it – gained new force in Japanese film from the 1960s and has run strong until today. As media technologies change, so does the quality of paranoia and proposed solutions. Prof. Alexander Zahlten (Harvard University) will survey film and anime in Japan from the 1960s to today to map that history.
