Disaffected teenager Sora embarks on a quest for her recently deceased grandfather’s old war weapon while a mysterious backwards-walking vagabond enters her life. Anshul CHAUHAN’s coming-of-age drama deals with the still lingering effects of Japan’s wartime past and is infused with an enigmatic and downright somnambulistic atmosphere.

アンシュル・チョウハン

Anshul CHAUHAN was born in India in 1986. After studying art, he began working as an animation artist at Paprikaas Studios in 2006. In 2011, he moved to Tokyo and worked as a CGI animator on projects including the TV series TRON: UPRISING (2012/2013) and the film GANTZ: 0 (2016). In 2016, CHAUHAN co-founded the production company Kowatanda Films with Mina MOTEKI. His directorial debut, BAD POETRY TOKYO (2018), and his second feature film, KONTORA (2019 / NC ’21), won awards at various international film festivals. DECEMBER (2022 / NC ’23) competed at the 2022 Busan International Film Festival.
