The traditional Obinata Firework Factory is set to close. Sentaro leaves town to pursue a career in Tokyo, but his brother Keitaro decides to stay and fight for the family business. Visually inspired by classical Japanese painting, Yoshitoshi SHINOMIYA’s anime tackles questions of generational justice, environmental issues, and personal responsibility.

About Yoshitoshi SHINOMIYA
四宮義俊
Yoshitoshi SHINOMIYA was born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1980, studied Japanese painting at Tokyo University of the Arts, and completed his doctoral dissertation in 2008. His works have been shown in numerous exhibitions. He worked as an illustrator on animated films such as YOUR NAME (2016) and IN THIS CORNER OF THE WORLD (2016 / NC ‘17). In addition, he designs books, works in advertising, and directs music videos. The anime A NEW DAWN (2026 / NC ‘26) is his first feature film and competed at the 2026 Berlin International Film Festival.
