1980s England: A British-Japanese author wishes to write about the post-war experiences of her mother Etsuko, who suffers from the loss of her oldest daughter. But the author is confronted with unsettling contradictions in her mother’s recollections. Based on the book by Nobel laureate Kazuo ISHIGURO, the film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

About Kei ISHIKAWA
石川慶

Kei ISHIKAWA, born in Aichi Prefecture in 1977, studied physics at Tohoku University and went on to study film directing at the Łódź Film School in Poland. He initially directed TV documentaries and short films. His feature film debut, GUKOROKU – TRACES OF SIN (2016 / NC ’17), celebrated its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. His mystery drama A MAN (2022) received eight awards at the 46th Japan Academy Film Prize, including Best Picture and Best Director.
