In the Global Universities Subtitling Project of the Japan Visualmedia Translation Academy (JVTA), students gather initial experience in film subtitling. We present two PIA Film Festival shorts, which were subtitled by students of the University of Ghent (SEE YOU NEXT WEEK) and the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (THE BON FESTIVAL).

High schooler Asako is passionate about watching TV soap operas. She empathizes with the emotions of the main characters so much that she begins to confuse them with her own. Increasingly, the teenager loses touch with reality and dreams about becoming an actress.

Shinji has lost his son in an accident and has nightmares about his son’s lost soul. One of his art students tells him about a ritual to soothe the ghosts of the deceased. When Shinji executes the ritual himself, mysterious events begin to occur.
