After the Kanto earthquake of 1923, rumors spread that Koreans living in Japan might be planning riots. A group of itinerant merchants is the target of suspicions fueled by the government and newspapers. Documentary filmmaker Tatsuya MORI’s feature debut, based on true events, won the New Currents Award at the 2023 Busan International Film Festival.

About Tatsuya MORI
森達也
Tatsuya MORI was born in Hiroshima Prefecture in 1956 and studied law at Rikkyo University. He began his film career as an actor. In 1987, he began working for a TV production company and then became a freelance director, shooting the internationally acclaimed documentaries A (1998) and A2 (2001 / NC ’02) about the Aum Shinrikyo cult. In the following years, he continued making documentary films, including I -DOCUMENTARY OF THE JOURNALIST- (2019 / NC ’20), while also working as an author and as a professor at Meiji University.
