Japanese “America” – American Japan?

Nippon Culture   º

A lecture by Dr Christian CHAPPELOW

After Japan lost World War II, the country was occupied by the United States. What impact did the clash of the two cultures have? Dr. Christian CHAPPELOW (Japanologie Frankfurt) explores how Americans living in Japan during the postwar period were portrayed by Japanese authors and what ideas of Japanese (national) identity their texts convey. The lecture will be translated into German Sign Language.
