Tohoku, late 18th century: Born into a family of outcasts, Rin is despised by her village community. One day, her father, who is unable to stand the hunger, steals some rice. Rin takes the blame and leaves the village, heading for the mountains, where she meets a mysterious man. Takeshi FUKUNAGA’s mystic drama evokes the legends about Mount Hayachine.

About Takeshi FUKUNAGA
福永壮志
Takeshi FUKUNAGA was born in Hokkaido Prefecture in 1982 and studied film production and film editing in New York. His first feature film OUT OF MY HAND premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2015. His second feature film AINU MOSIR (2020 / NC ’21) was made with the support of the Cannes Cinéfondation and had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. His third film MOUNTAIN WOMAN (2022) was shown at Nippon Connection in 2023. In addition to his accolades for his directorial work, he won numerous prizes as an editor, like for THE BIRTH OF SAKÉ (2015 / NC ’16).
