In 1991, Takashi UEMURA wrote a number of articles about a former Korean “comfort woman” who claimed to have been forced into prostitution for Japanese soldiers. Two decades later, commentators brand the report as a fabrication and UEMURA becomes a target. Shinji NISHIJIMA traces the influence of right-wing forces in Japan’s society.

About Shinji NISHIJIMA
西嶋真司
Shinji NISHIJIMA, born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1957, is a graduate of Waseda University and joined the RKB Mainichi Broadcasting Corporation in 1981. He served as a correspondent in Seoul from 1991 to 1994. He produced several television programs, mainly focusing on the Second World War and directed his first documentary film, RESISTANCE – THE OLD WRITER HAYASHI EIDAI, in 2017. In 2019, he founded his own production company Document Asia. His second feature-length documentary had its world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival.
