In his laconic comedies, indie director Hirobumi WATANABE has created his own cinematic universe. However, his films are far from being box office hits. With WATANABE playing himself in Kah Wai LIM’s road movie, the film provides both a good dose of self-mockery and an urgent plea to support independent filmmaking and Japan’s dying cinema culture.

About Kah Wai LIM
リム・カーワイ
Kah Wai LIM, born in Kuala Lumpur in 1973, graduated in electrical engineering and worked as a network engineer in Tokyo for six years. He then studied at the Beijing Film Academy. In 2010, he made his directorial debut with AFTER ALL THESE YEARS in Beijing. Since then, the documentary and feature film director is known for his cross-cultural filmmaking. He shoots with multi-national casts in various Asian and South-East European countries. He received the NIPPON VISIONS JURY AWARD in 2023 for his feature film YOUR LOVELY SMILE (2022 / NC ’23).
