Muddy River

泥の河

Nippon Retro   ²

Osaka, 1956: The Korean War is over and the industrial city is experiencing an economic boom. Nobuo’s parents run a small restaurant on the banks of the Yodo River. With big, innocent children’s eyes, the boy looks into a world in which poverty and the wounds of war cannot be overlooked. Kohei OGURI masterfully combines emotion and history in vivid black-and-white images. One of the most impressive films in cinema history on childhood and the post-war period.
