A Town And A Tall Chimney

ある町の高い煙突

Nippon Cinema   ª

In 1910, five years after the opening of the Hitachi Mine, smoke pollution from sulphurous acid gas caused extensive damage to forests and crops. The mining company responded by offering generous compensation in money and crops, but there was no fundamental solution. In response, two young men representing the village and the company came up with an unprecedented solution. This is a true story of the early days of the Hitachi Mine (now JX Nippon Mining & Metals Corporation).
