In 2003, the city of Yamagata hosted two film events, the prestigious Yamagata International Film Festival (YIDFF) and the National Cultural Festival, that presented experimental young Japanese documentaries. Asako FUJIOKA of the YIDFF has selected the best works from both festivals.
