At the end of the Edo period, samurai Kosaka is ordered to kill a ronin – but a sudden thunderclap hurls him onto a set for historical films in modern-day Kyoto. Mistaken for an extra, he is cast in productions while struggling with his new life. Junichi YASUDA’s charming homage to the fading samurai film genre won the 2025 NIPPON CINEMA AWARD. About Junichi YASUDA
安田淳一

Junichi YASUDA, born in Kyoto in 1967, worked in video production following his studies at Osaka University of Economics. In 2014, he founded his own company, Mirai Eigasha, and made his debut feature film, THE GUN AND FRIED EGG. After the death of his father in 2023, he took over his family’s rice farm. A SAMURAI IN TIME (2024 / NC ‘25) has received recognition at multiple international film festivals. The independently-produced film was a box office success in Japan and was awarded both at the 48th Japan Academy Film Prize and the 67th Blue Ribbon Awards.
