A Wanderer’s Notebook

After adapting several of Fumiko HAYASHI’s works into some of his most successful films of the 1950s, Mikio NARUSE took on the author’s life itself. A WANDERER’S NOTEBOOK is based on the eponymous autobiographical novel and recounts the times before HAYASHI’s literary breakthrough, her life in poverty and her many jobs and relationships. Hideko TAKAMINE stars as HAYASHI, while Kinuyo TANAKA, who at this point in her career predominantly played supporting characters, can be seen as her mother.
