A Hen In The Wind
風の中の牝鶏
Nippon Retro ²
While waiting for her husband to return from World War II, Tokiko (Kinuyo TANAKA) must care for her sick four-year-old son. Unable to pay for his treatment, the young mother finds no other choice than resorting to prostitution. In his second post-war film, Yasujiro OZU paints a picture of Japan in the first months after the end of the war that is both tragic and hopeful. Kinuyo TANAKA shines with her portrayal of a mother and wife who goes to extremes for the sake of her family.
