Auditions for the latest film of a Japanese master director threaten to go out of control. Sion SONO, the enfant terrible of Japanese cinema, uses this simple idea to contrast the hopes and dreams of artists with the often rather profane business of film production. Innumerable plot lines eventually escalate in a long take of supremely controlled chaos.

About Sion SONO
園子温

Sion SONO was born in Aichi Prefecture in 1961. Having experimented with 8mm film during his studies at Hosei University, he won the Grand Prize at the 1987 PIA Film Festival for his film A MAN’S FLOWER ROAD. His international rise to fame came with LOVE EXPOSURE (2008 / NC ’09). Since then, he has won numerous awards. THE WHISPERING STAR (2015 / NC ’16 and NC ’20) won the NETPAC Award at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. Nippon Connection dedicated a retrospective to his work in 2011.
