After violently illustrating the consequences of teenage frustration and depression in the bloody imagery of SUICIDE CLUB, Sion SONO places NORIKO’S DINNER TABLE in the same scenario to explore cynically messed up family structures and adolescents struggling with their identity.

About Sion SONO
園子温
Sion SONO was born in Aichi Prefecture in 1961. Having experimented with 8mm film during his studies at Hosei University, he won the Grand Prize at the 1987 PIA Film Festival for his film A MAN’S FLOWER ROAD. His international rise to fame came with LOVE EXPOSURE (2008 / NC ’09). Since then, he has won numerous awards. THE WHISPERING STAR (2015 / NC ’16 and NC ’20) won the NETPAC Award at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. Nippon Connection dedicated a retrospective to his work in 2011.
